Headphones & Earphones
Unilet Sound & Vision are a leading supplier of specialist headphones, earphones, and IEM’s.
During the past few years it has become increasingly obvious that headphones and earphones are here to stay – and once you trade-up from those little earbuds included with your smartphone, you’ll step into a whole new world of awesome-quality personal audio. The difference is quite remarkable.
You’ll also discover a whole world of new terminology: Closed-back, open-back, circumaural, in-ear, over-ear, electrostatic, balanced-armature, dynamic-driver, noise-cancelling, 3D audio – the list goes on, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed at first. Which type of headphones are best for you?

Open/Closed, On/Over?
One of your first choices might be between an Open-Back or Closed-Back design. Open-back headphones can sound very spacious, but people around you will be able to hear your music – not so considerate on crowded trains.
By contrast, the closed-back style gives more privacy, however their enclosed design can make you less aware of ambient noise, and can make bass frequencies more punchy. Depending on your requirements, this might be a good thing.
Going a step further, you also have on-ear and over-ear designs. As you probably realise, this refers to how the headphone pads sit on – or fully over – your ears. For long periods of extended listening, most people find the over-ear style works best. More comfort, more immersion, more enjoyment.

Earphones & IEM’s
Unlike headphones, earphones actually sit inside the ear canal. This makes for a much lighter, unobtrusive design which can be very desirable during physical activity. Many runners, cyclists, fitness enthusiasts and gym-goers report that they much prefer the audio experience provided by a set of good-quality earphones.
Earphones also deliver an extremely personal, very immersive soundscape. Their close proximity to your ear means that nothing is lost, not even the tiniest sound. Custom fitting means a perfect match to each individual ear shape, and effective listening at lower volume levels too.
For audio professionals and musicians there are even In-Ear Monitors (or IEM’s) – earphones which are specially designed to cope with the rigorous requirements of studio or stage.

Gaming, Playing, Listening
For gamers, headphone technology now shapes the way in-game sound is experienced. In-built microphones allow interaction and communication with teammates and other players, whilst 3D modelling allows head movement to be separated from sound sources.
For active types, bluetooth and battery technology allows wireless connection and rechargeable units. Never be constrained by wires again.
But for serious listeners, there is still nothing to compare with a favourite chair, a pair of audiophile-quality headphones, and a classic album. Why not come visit us, and audition a new pair of cans today.
