KEF release new LS50 Meta and LS50 Wireless II loudspeakers
Never an organisation to stand still or rest on their many laurels, KEF Audio have released new versions of both models in their acclaimed LS50 series, with the new LS50 Meta, and the new LS50 Wireless II loudspeakers due in October / November 2020.
Besides iterative improvements to many aspects of both models, including the 12th Generation of KEF’s Uni-Q Driver Array, the key development here is the inclusion of Metamaterial Absorbtion Technology (MAT) – a complex maze-like structure which absorbs 99% of unwanted sound energy from the rear of the driver.
This new combination delivers reduced colouration, less distortion, and a more transparent life-like sound, no matter where you are in the room. Back-to-back listening tests bear this out, with audible improvements over the previous iteration of both models.
What Hi-Fi? agree, awarding BOTH new models five-star reviews in their 2020 awards.
LS50 Meta
Owners of the award-winning LS50 may find themselves asking what’s new? After all, LS50 Meta certainly shares a likeness with the original. But while LS50 is undoubtedly a great speaker, LS50 Meta and the technological advances it boasts offer a truly dramatic improvement in sound quality.
Enhancements over the legendary predecessor include Driver Performance Optimisation and patented off-set flexible port for the best acoustic performance and an incredible immersive sound.
LS50 Meta’s low-diffraction, curved baffle is precision modelled around the Uni-Q driver array. Its smooth curved surfaces help radiate sound out across the baffle without any interference from hard edges, which cause diffraction. The result is cleaner, more precise sound.
LS50 Wireless II
No matter how you stream your music, LS50 Wireless II has you covered. This latest iteration of the award-winning LS50 Wireless allows streaming direct from the Spotify native app with Spotify Connect.
With the KEF Connect app you can also stream Tidal, Amazon Music, Qobuz, and Deezer or tune in to internet radio and podcasts.
All aspects of the LS50 Wireless II performance are aided by KEF’s bespoke Music Integrity Engine. This collection of bespoke Digital Signal Processing algorithms is optimised for the Uni-Q driver, enabling it to deliver a perfectly timed performance, for better imaging and a tighter sound.
Users can choose to operate LS50 Wireless II completely wirelessly at 24bit/96kHz resolution for a completely clutter-free set up, or you can connect the two speakers with the (supplied) cable for 24bit/192kHz resolution sound.
