Custom install speakers are usually passive-type loudspeakers designed especially for architectural placement. Some kinds are meant to be visible, some are meant for concealment. They are also known as in-wall speakers or Ci speakers.

As such, Ci speakers are often supplied to professional installers; these companies build listening rooms, music rooms, studios, conference spaces and complete home cinema rooms, as part of bespoke projects.

Most custom install speakers are supplied without their usual cabinets and with special mounting kits. They are intended to be mounted in-wall, on-wall, or in-ceiling. Careful consideration is required concerning speaker supports, cable routing and the placement of amplification.
