CD Transports
CD Transports are very precise mechanical components. Using laser reflection, they read digital audio data from a spinning optical disc, then output that information to an external DAC for signal processing.
Pro Tip – Don’t confuse Transports with Players. The CD Player contains an internal DAC. However the CD Transport is designed solely on the mechanical data-retrieval aspect. All transports require a separate external DAC to process the resulting digital signal.
This separation of roles is a good thing, because having a dedicated transport lets you easily upgrade your DAC when the time is right.
