Talisman-R
In celebration of four decades of craft and expertise, Ruark is relaunching one of its best-known loudspeaker designs, the Talisman. The original Talisman arrived in 1990, and for many, this was the model that defined the company.
With its slim profile and sloped baffle, it stood out from the many rectangular loudspeakers available and gave Ruark Audio a reputation for designing products that look as good as they sound.
Ruark are delighted to be reintroducing a fourth generation of this innovative speaker in the form of Talisman-R. The connection between the original and the new is clear, but with years of accumulated knowledge, Talisman-R incorporates innovations that deliver another level of performance along with a refreshed design that fits perfectly with Ruark’s 100 Series aesthetic.
Drivers
As the original, Talisman-R is a two way, bass reflex design and retains Ruark’s preference for natural driver materials, featuring a 165mm long throw treated fibre NS+ woofer along with a 27mm silk dome tweeter.
The drivers are unified via a carefully optimised crossover, using premium audio-grade capacitors, resistors and low-loss inductors, for best signal transfer and reduced distortion. The result is speakers with seamless integration and a wide natural frequency range.
Enclosure
An area where Ruark have paid particular attention is in the development of the enclosure. Imagine that in a speaker, as much sound energy is fed back into the cabinet as is delivered out the front, so controlling and dissipating this energy is vital in creating quality sound.
The bolts that feature on the front baffle are a vital part of Talisman-R’s decoupled baffle design. These suspend the baffle on elastomer bushes and together with a dual damping strip, limit the vibration transfer from the drivers to the main enclosure. Internally the enclosure has a bracing system to control acoustic hotspots and is lined and damped with compound wadding.
This absorbs energy over a wider frequency range and effectively controls internal standing waves. The outcome is an enclosure that is ultra-low in colouration, resulting in a purer sound.
Plinth & Feet
The shape of Talisman-R makes it inherently stable, but to further aid stability the plinth of each is machined from 10 mm plate steel with threads for the supplied adjustable rubber feet and carpet spikes.
This added mass makes Talisman-R ultra stable and when viewed from the front gives the speakers a distinctive floating appearance.
