SME
SME is a precision-engineering company based in Steyning, West Sussex. The company manufacture high-end, precision-made audio equipment, plus high-quality precision made components for the aerospace, F1, and medical equipment industries.
Originally formed in 1946 as The Scale Model Equipment Company making scale models and parts, in 1959 the company founder required a pick-up arm for his own turntable and an experimental version was subsequently made. It received such an enthusiastic reception that commercial production ensued and thus the first SME precision pick-up arm appeared in September 1959. The company name was changed to SME Limited, and the company has gone from strength to strength in the audio world ever since.
