Multi-Channel Power Amplifiers
Intended primarily for home cinema / home theatre applications, multi-channel power amplifiers are capable of driving a greater number of loudspeakers than are found in the standard left/right two-channel hi-fi system.
Each audio channel requires a separate power amplifier, and so your choice of multi-channel amp needs to take your current and future needs into account.
Powering a basic 3.1 system (left / centre / right, plus powered subwoofer) will require a 3-channel power amplifier, whilst a 5.1 system will need two further channels for rear-left and rear-right surround speakers.
