Multi-Channel Power Amplifiers
Multi-channel power amplifiers are intended primarily for home cinema / home theatre applications. They are strong, hard-working devices, capable of driving many more loudspeakers than the standard left / right two-channel hi-fi system.
Every audio channel requires its own separate power amplifier. This means your choice of multi-channel amp needs to take your current and future needs into account.
Powering a basic 3.1 system (left / centre / right, plus powered subwoofer) will require a 3-channel power amplifier, whilst a 5.1 system will need two further channels for the rear-left and rear-right surround speakers.
