Dolby Atmos / Surround Speakers
Dolby Atmos® is an amazingly immersive surround-sound technology. It expands on more traditional surround systems by adding height channels to the audio stream, which are then decoded and sent to dedicated Atmos-enabled loudspeakers.
You may see Home Cinema systems described as (for example) 5.1.2 or 7.1.4. The last digit represents how many overhead or Atmos-enabled speakers are available in the system.
To run Dolby Atmos® in smaller spaces, customers often choose Atmos-enabled Soundbars (which contain several upward-firing drivers). However for larger spaces, it is more usual to have dedicated upward-firing add-on wedges. These can placed on top of other speakers in the surround system for the full immersive sonic experience.
