Blu-ray Players are another kind of digital optical disc reader. The Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a next-generation storage format designed to supersede DVDs. They are capable of storing hours of video in high-definition (HDTV 720p and 1080p) and ultra-high definition resolution (2160p).
Interesting fact: The name “Blu-ray” refers to the blue laser (actually violet) used to read the disc, which allows for greater density information storage than is possible with the longer-wavelength red lasers used for DVDs. Who knew?
