FS-600 S3

The Bowers & Wilkins FS-600 S3 is the official stand for the 607 S3 and 606 S3 loudspeakers in the latest version of their 600 Series.

The 606 S3 and 607 S3 are primarily designed to be mounted on this dedicated floor stand, but may be placed on a shelf if preferred. However, it should be noted that shelf mounting offers far less flexibility to optimise the speaker’s performance.

If shelf placement must be used, B&W recommend using the foam plugs (supplied with your speakers) to optimise port performance.

In both installation cases, the tweeters of your speakers should be approximately at ear height, when in your usual listening position.

In the 1970s, musicians and high fidelity enthusiasts found that lifting speakers off the ground, and also mounting them on something with no vibration increased sound quality.

Ordinary domestic furniture was not built with properties that would deaden vibrations. Speaker stands therefore were purpose built, able to remove any unwanted colourations that came about through external vibration.

Further research has shown that speakers are best positioned so that the tweeter is level with the ear of the listener and so speaker stands are often built so that they line up the speakers with the ear of a person when sitting down.
