SR-007A
The innovative SR-007A is, like all other STAX headphones, an ultra-high fidelity device due to its electrostatic technology. However, unlike other STAX Earspeakers, it features a different design for its deep powerful sound and is hence, an Earspeaker like no other.
The unique electrode structure has a gold-plated outer edge. Unlike other Earspeakers, these electrodes do not have any holes, causing the diaphragm to vibrate more. This not only gives you a rich powerful sound but also lets you experience the delicate details in your music.
To thoroughly eliminate distortion, STAX encases the sound element in a thick insulated resin case. This case is firmly attached to the SR-007A body. This makes sure that only the diaphragm vibrates, giving you a sound that’s almost magical.
The SR-007A is made for long listening sessions. The soft lambskin earpads are adjustable so that they fit your head perfectly.
For a great sound, the SR-007A uses a Pure Crystal Ohno Continuous Casting (PC-OCC) cable. This 2.5 metre (8.2 feet) cable has a low capacity and wide format, which ensures that you only get high-quality audio when you plug it in.
Electrostatic Technology
Electrostatic transducers consist of two parallel-arranged fixed electrodes with a very thin high-polymer film diaphragm sandwiched and suspended in the middle of the electrodes.
The diaphragm is supplied with the biasing voltage from the energising adaptors or from the driver unit.
When the fluctuating voltage of the audio signal is applied to the electrodes, the diaphragm is pulled by one electrode (which has the opposite charge of the diaphragm) and simultaneously pushed by the other electrode (which has the like charge of the diaphragm).
This continuous flow of alternating voltage causes the diaphragm to vibrate in faithful compliance with the amplifier output without lag, assuring undistorted sound waves. This is why the STAX electrostatic earspeakers sound so good.
Electrostatic Driver Required
Electrostatic reproduction has many quality advantages, however such units cannot be used directly with a conventional headphone jack, and require a special electrostatic amplifier (driver) unit.
The vibrating diaphragm requires Bias voltage of 580V (almost no current). Relatively high signal voltage to the fixed pole (up to 300-600 V) must be supplied as push-pull, a rather special electrical signal. The STAX series of driver units are dedicated amplifiers strictly for STAX headphones.
